As parents we all know that we never appreciated the extent that our feelings of 'love' could reach until we had children.
Now we've all heard that "Life is a Rollercoaster" anyway but, with kids, it might be described as being like 'driving a rollercoaster yourself, when drunk & wearing goggles that are constantly steamed up, without necessary prescriptive lenses'!! It is a scary ride, but exhilarating at the same time!
We pour everything that we have into our little humans. Our spermatozoa & ova; our hormones & everything involved with pregnancy; our milk (if possible); our neverending love; our sleep; our braincells; EVERYTHING. And we wouldn't change it for the World!
However, no matter how 'perfect' it all might appear to be, it would be unusual if we didn't feel a bit overwhelmed sometimes. Overwhelmed with tiredness. Overwhelmed with exasperation. Overwhelmed with worry about the unknown. But we all have each other to support us - ESPECIALLY Daisy Lanarkshire Mums!!
We also have other people to support us too; & not necessarily those that we might expect (e.g. partners / parents / grandparents / in-laws??) There have been a few times when I have reached the bottom of the barrel &, particularly with hubby working offshore for most of the year & very little child care assistance, I have found myself in tears. In tears on my own. In tears in front of my babies (boo!) - but this is where I am heading...
After everything we have put in to our children, it feels AMAZING to get something back! We do get SO MUCH love back from our babies, but a lot of the time we miss it or don't realise. It was only when my little boy (now 4) & / or my baby girl (19 months) both came to smother me with kisses & cuddles, stroking my hair & face, & saying loving things when I was upset, that I truly felt my love being reflected back to me!
My wee boy tells me he "loves me SO much!" on a daily basis. He also has started to tell me "you look so pretty, Mummy!" (Awww! 😍😘) My wee girl is still learning to speak, but she can now mumble "Iwuvoomummy". My heart feels like it is going to burst on a regular basis - no more so when my love is given back to me, in tiny human form!
So, as Whitney sang:
"I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be..."
Keep on loving, Mummies; we are never on our own in this!!! Xxx
