So many of us suffer in pregnancy with the joys of heartburn.
Like me you may never have suffered before but when you get a bit further on in pregnancy you start to feel a burning in your throat or chest .
But how can we help ourselves to ease such symptoms?
As a mum of two these are a few of the things which helped relieve my symptoms
1. Love heart sweets! Who would have though it? The chalky texture of love hearts and refresher sweets helped my mild heartburn saving me from having to invest in medication in the early stages.
2. Ice cream and yoghurt. I always seemed to have been bothered in bed until I started having yoghurt for my supper.
3. A glass of milk always eases the stomach
4. An apple, very strange as you may think this could worsen your heartburn but I have had a few clients whose heartburn was eased by apples!!
For those of you who ended up swigging out the bottle of Gaviscon, you know who you are, and I was one of you! Sitting in my Daisy Birthing classes getting ready to go down for Relaxation and taking a sneaky swig out of my bottle of Gaviscon!
REMEMBER at all times, NEVER PAY FOR GAVISCON!!!!
In Scotland we have a fabulous thing called "Minor Ailments" which expectant mums can use and again can use for babies when they arrive. The purpose is to give time back to the doctors when it is something like Pregnancy heartburn that a pharmacist can help with rather than using up a doctors appt.
To benefit from Minor Ailments register with your local pharmacy and simply describe your symptoms and they will give you Gaviscon for Free. Although always ask for peppermint as they may try and sneak you the aniseed!
Sometime positioning can really help, being more upright by sitting on your exercise ball at night rather than lying down, prop yourself up with pillows.
